RPP says ‘Only one solution in Manipur– Bifurcation for Nagas, Kukis and Meiteis’

Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party, Nagaland, on June 30, issued a statement stating that resolving the situation in Manipur demanded division of powers among the three major ethnic groups of the state. According to the statement, there was only one solution to the problem— bifurcating executive, legislative and financial powers between the Meiteis in the valley and the Nagas and Kukis in the hills.

RPP alleged that almost two-months after violence broke out on May 3, “It is now beyond doubt that the CM Biren Singh conducted an insidious but calculated operation” to flush out Kukis living in the Imphal valley.

Terming the alleged operation as “Manipur Experiment,” RPP alleged that it led to the razing of “almost every Kuki village in the foothills surrounding the Imphal Valley with the help of armed Meitei extremists resulting in tens of thousands of Kukis living in and around the Imphal Valley becoming refugees in Nagaland, Mizoram, Churachandpur, Guwahati, Delhi and elsewhere.”

The experiment to sanitize the Imphal valley was so well orchestrated that not only the Kukis but the churches were affected as well, it claimed, while adding, “According to reports, hundreds of Meitei churches have been burnt down in Imphal Valley alone, besides the hundreds of Kuki churches burnt down in the valley and the surrounding foothills.”

“Perhaps this is the reason why the Prime Minister Modi has been keeping silent till date – until the experiment had reached its logical conclusion,” it held.

RPP also stated that “now that the agenda of Greater Meitei-Land has succeeded – encompassing the foothill areas belonging to the fleeing Kukis – the drama of Biren Singh stepping down is beginning to unfold, an eye-wash, so to speak, to show the world that the BJP central government is taking strong action to return Manipur to normalcy.”

“The ‘Manipur Experiment’ does not bode well for the Nagas of Manipur even if they aren’t the affected party now. Meitei extremism – under the shelter of state patronage, will not stop on the doorsteps of Kukis, and it’s direly important for them to raise their voice,” it added.
