Rs. 54.52 lakhs for 3 footbridges in Kohima

Kohima (MExN): Good news: Pedestrians would soon heave a sigh of relief as decks have been cleared for construction of 3 pedestrian footbridges within the 3 busiest locations of the state capital by the Government of India. Out of the project cost of Rs 1.21 crore, the state government has received a sanctioned amount of Rs 54.52 lakh as the first installment from Delhi, Secretary Urban Development and Fisheries. Dr K Chuba IAS confirmed the development to The Morung Express. The proposed footbridges would be constructed at Razhu Point, SP Point and MLA Hostel, the Secretary said. Funded by the Central government under non-lapsable pool, the Secretary informed that spot verification has already been done and the Additional Chief Engineer has been entrusted to approach an architect for the purpose.

Dr Chuba further informed that the project would start as soon as the formalities were completed. 

“The work would start immediately after completion of all the formalities” he said adding it would be started within the current financial year. The PWD department would be entrusted to invite tenders for the purpose, it is learnt. The move is expected to be a relief to the citizens of Kohima in view of the increase in the number of vehicles since the last few years.
