TSEMINYU, JUNE 4 (MExN): The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ), the apex youth organisation of the Rengma community, has submitted an urgent representation to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Department of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, calling for immediate strengthening of the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Tseminyu, the sole such facility catering to the entire district population.

In a memorandum, the RSZ expressed grave concern over the critical shortage of medical staff and infrastructure at CHC Tseminyu, despite repeated appeals made over the past year. The organisation had formally adopted the CHC in 2024 as part of its community welfare initiative, actively cooperating with authorities to improve healthcare delivery in the district.

However, the RSZ stated that the CHC continues to operate under “severe constraints,” especially in view of the increasing patient load during the challenging season, when rural and interior areas report higher numbers of medical cases.

According to the memorandum, the CHC currently has only one Senior Medical Officer (SMO), one MBBS doctor (contractual), one dentist, one Ayushman doctor and six nurses.

“This existing strength is grossly inadequate to meet the healthcare demands of the entire district,” the RSZ stated.

The organisation lamented that multiple representations and appeals to the department had yielded no tangible results, leading to continued neglect of the CHC, which it warned could have serious consequences for public health in the district.

The RSZ has urged the department to urgently deploy additional Medical Officers, nurses, and essential medical facilities to the centre, warning that failure to do so may compel the youth body to initiate democratic forms of protest.

“This continued negligence is not only disheartening but also poses a serious risk to the lives of the people in the district,” the memorandum stated. “Should the issue remain unaddressed, we will be left with no choice but to resort to democratic protest, which may lead to unavoidable and unhealthy situations.”
