Kohima | August 13 : Parliamentary secretary Tourism, Law & Justice, Yitachu said Right to Education (RTE) is a threat for Pochury community as there is no detention system and opined for a better way to fit the students in education, while also urging wider ambitions which will help in contributing to the society.
Addressing the 20th General Conference of Pochury Hoho, Kohima (PHK) as the guest of honor, at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima, the parliamentary secretary said that literacy rate may be high, yet mere educational qualification will not help an individual to sit for various competitions. He added that if the teachers are irresponsible it will jeopardize the younger generation, thereby he said that it is everyone’s responsibility to give quality education to the students, only then “RTE will work wonders”.
While congratulating the president PHK, Wachusie Katiry who recently got through the NPSC technical examination, Yitachu stated that this achievement is an inspiration to the youth. It has also sent across the message that hard work has its reward and will never go in vain, more so when the examinations are conducted in a free and fair manner. Yitachu also appealed to the students to be sincere and dedicated in whatever they do and to strive to come out of the backward shell.
Dwelling on the attitude of its community Yitachu said: “We are too self centered, we don’t want to go beyond our family circle that has caused us irreparable loss”, putting in more that elderly advice is an asset to the young people and urged the older people to share their experiences and views.
He also lamented that Christianity arrived very late in the Pochury community and it is no secret that Christianity comes along with education, which indicates “We are years behind other Naga tribes, not only in religious matters but in education as well”, said Yitachu.
He also asserted the though less in population, Pochury community occupies high potential areas of natural resources, which can be developed to be the highest economic contributor in the state. Yitachu further urged for priority to be placed on such matters and urged for developmental activities to proceed without hindrance.
Secretary, Urban Development, Neihu C. Thur IAS in his brief address said that since majority of the Pochury settlers in Kohima are students, he urged the PHK to bring out a telephone directory so that all may stay connected and help out even in times of difficulties.
He also expressed his gratitude to parliamentary secretary, Tourism for his strong and able leadership in representing his community where much improvement has been witnessed and still more are in the process through his effort.
Katiry fervently appealed the gathering to have civic sense and show good example to other people and also to be an asset to the Naga society. Katiry also offered to host the 21st general conference of PHK the following year.
Earlier the programme was chaired by Mosa Tsang while Katsutho, Fincance Secretary PHK delivered welcome address. The programme was marked by a special number by Rhozhi, presidential address, General Secretary PHK, Yitsuchu Trakha and Audit Convener Tarachu Fithu annual reports.John Katiry, Treasurer PHK pronounced vote of thanks.
The afternoon hour was followed by election of new office bearers.
