‘Run Mokokchung’ promoting mental & physical health

Run Mokokchung- an initiative of the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church, which started in 2016 completed one year on November 28. Run Mokokchung started with an aim to promote and improve the mental and physical health of the people through running and exercise.  

The one year anniversary of Run Mokokchung was celebrated with a thanksgiving service at Police Baptist Church Mokokchung, where the member gave their testimonies and shared their experiences. Bendang Jamir, Associate Pastor, MTBA shared a short message on being healthy and how Run Mokokchung can do bigger and greater things for the society.  

Run Mokokchung comprises of people from all walks of life and of all ages. The oldest runner is a sixty year old while the youngest is an eight year old girl. Every Monday and Thursday, the group gathers at the church premises at 5:00 am and starts running. While running, they also stop at certain points and pray for the people and for the society.  

“Run Mokokchung has a holistic approach. We run not only for our physical fitness, but also for spiritual fitness. It has helped us to grow in every aspects of our life; our attitude, our mindset, behavioral changes,”said Temsuwati Kichu, Associate Pastor, MTBA.  

Bendang Atsungchanger, a recovering addict, has been running with Run Mokokchung for more than six months now and he says that it has helped him to stay away from his old habits and has changed his outlook towards life.  

Run Mokokchung as a team not only focuses on maintaining a healthy life but also in promoting cleanliness. The group has initiated cleanliness drive around Mokokchung town a couple of times and is also engaged in many other social activities.  

With people from all communities joining the group, Run Mokokchung hopes that it will run towards maintaining a healthy life, promoting friendship and strengthening community ties.
