Tuensang, February 10 (MExN): A six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) was held on the topic ‘Bee Keeping’ at Hakchang village, Tuensang from February 3 to 9. 

It was conducted by the office of the Senior Scientist and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Tuensang under the aegis of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad and State Agricultural Management and Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland.

The main objective of the training was to offer skill based training opportunities to rural youths including farmers for the economic upliftment of the rural population, a press release issued by Dr Pijush Kanti Biswas, Senior Scientist and Head KVK, Tuensang stated. 

The resource persons were Dr Watisenla Imsong (Senior Research Fellow), Yanger I Kichu (Farm Manager) and Seveto Nyekha (Programme Assistant). Various topics on beekeeping such as essential bee keeping tools, honeybee biology, considerations for placing bee colonies, starting new bee colonies, keeping bee hives healthy, harvesting of honey etc. were covered during the training program. 

In the valedictory session, certificate of completion were given to the participants and the Course Director, Seveto Nyekha, encouraged all the trainees to put into practice what they learned from the training programme and to develop entrepreneurial skills to earn profit and uplift economic condition of the village. Vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr Watisenla Imsong. 
Bee boxes and Bee protection hats were also distributed to all the 15 trainees.
