The 1st Salangtem Youth Union Futsal Tournament organised by the Salangtem Youth Union, Mokokchung under the aegis of Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) was inaugurated by Jamonger Ao, ADS F& CS, as the guest of honour at Mojabi Futsal Ground, Salangtem, Mokokchung.
The inaugural programme began with the guest of honour unveiling the tournament Mascot.
The organising committee convenor, Imtisungkum, in his welcome address said, “Sports, earlier, was played as an extra-curricular activity, but now it is considered a co-curricular activity. We aim to mold and nurture discipline, perseverance, and other personality developing virtues. Hence, we have also organized this tournament keeping in mind that sports disciplines a person in so many aspects.”
In his address, Jamonger Ao, said, “We need a vibrant Mokokchung that thrives in all kinds of activities.” He challenged the gathering to be practical, to be result- and action-oriented organizations, officers, and individuals. He emphasised the word, “Balance” and urged every individual to maintain balance in all aspects of life. He also added that the tournament was a much-needed one.
The first match was played between Junior FC and Plan B FC, where the latter won against the former by a score of 6 goals. The second match was played between, Patron SC and Hill warriors, Khar where, the latter won against the former by a score of 4 goals.
The third match was played between Havana Team and Buddies (Kohima) and the Havana team won by a score of 3 goals.
Altogether, 21 teams are participating, in the tournament
