Medziphema, July 29 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland organised a training program on ‘Scientific Piggery Production’ from July 26 to 28 at SAMETI, Medziphema. The training was aimed at preparing ATMA functionaries with knowledge about piggery production and management for assisting the farming community in achieving sustainable livelihood through piggery farming.
The resource person for the training program Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, SMS (Animal Science) KVK Dimapur gave theoretical and practical sessions on ‘Significance of Scientific Management of Piggery’, ‘Housing Management’, ‘Breeding Management’, ‘Care of Pregnant sows and Piglets’, ‘Importance of Artificial Insemination in pig’, ‘Disease Management’, ‘Feeding management’ and ‘Sanitary Measures’.
The valedictory function was chaired by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI while feedback from the trainees was given by Dr. Khriengunuo Mepfhuo and Lanuzulu Pongener, BTM Kohima and ATM Dimapur, respectively. Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, SMS (Soil Science) KVK Dimapur in her valedictory address stressed that 60% of our state’s pork is imported and there is immense scope for pig rearing to not only meet the demand of pork but also as an employment generating enterprise apart from the usual backyard pig rearing which serves as a secondary source of income.
