SAMETI organises training for Farmer Friends

Medziphema, February 14 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a two days training programme on ‘mobilization of groups and operation of farm school’ for Farmer Friends from five ATMA districts viz., Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng and Mokokchung at SAMETI, Medziphema on February 13 and 14. The training programme was aimed at revisiting the roles of Farmer Friend (FF) with special reference to group mobilisation and farm school.


A press note issued by Director SAMETI Medziphema stated that the resource persons for the training program were Vikaho Chophi, Tiajungla Longchar and Sentinaro Longchar, Deputy Project Directors, SAMETI. The training programme covered topics on Introduction to ATMA, Organisational structure at various levels; Farmer Friend (FF)-Concept, objectives, duties; Farm School- Concept, objectives, functions, role of FF; Guidelines on group formation, Group approaches of FIG, CIG, FSG.


The participants went on a field trip to Pineapple farm school in Ruzaphema village under Medziphema block where they interacted with the farm school teacher. They were appraised on the functioning and activities carried out in the farm school.


The valedictory function was chaired by Sentinaro Longchar, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by Alemyongla, farmer friend Mokokchung and P. Kurakiu, farmer friend Kiphire. In her valedictory address, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice Principal, IETC Medziphema encouraged the participants to act as agents of change for the upliftment of the Agricultural community in their respective districts through dedication and hard work. She also proposed a two way working system between the Department and the farmers for the betterment of both parties through mutual help and cooperation.


The training programme concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants by Dr. Beremjungla, Lecturer and in charge, Bio-control laboratory IETC while vote of thanks was proposed by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI.
