With a view to identify and promote the vast talents in Nagaland, DK's Entertainment Group organized the first edition of Nagaland Songwriting Contest at Green Park, Dimapur on September 10. The event was held with a theme ‘Tapping the Untapped Talents’.
According to a press release, 90 participants showcased their creativity in the contest, and Samo Jamir, Chumdemo Merry, and Moko Koza were declared the first three winners respectively. Meanwhile, Pauranglungbe Hega, P. Lam, and Tiamongba received recommendations.
The winner of the contest, Samo Jamir, said that he would like to encourage all the hidden talents in Nagaland to come forward and take the leap, win or lose, “because that is how we grow as individuals,” the release said.
The chief guest of the event, Supongnukshi, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forest, said that writing and composing is an inborn gift from God to enrich our lives and that of others. “With this powerful gift we can either bring about a positive change or a negative impact on the lives that we touch. Choose with care, the messages that you want to send out to the world,” he exhorted.
During the inaugural programme, Kezia Semy released her original song titled "Walk in Gospel" written by DK and music by Lichen Kichu. The chief judge of the event, Alobo Naga encouraged the young songwriters to take the matter in a professional way.
The themes of the song were given on spot - "A Better Tomorrow", "Motherland forgotten" and "Unbreak my Heart".
The next edition of the contest will be organized in Kohima. Informing that the event will be held annually, DK Entertainment has solicited talented individuals to participate and contribute towards the music industry in the state.
