Kiphire, January 9 (MExN): The Sangkumti Village Students’ Union (SVSU) golden jubilee celebration was held under the theme ‘A journey of resilience; transcending towards brighter horizon’ at public ground, Sangkumti from January 3 to 5.
Speaking as the chief guest, MLA and Chairman DPDB, Noklak, Benei M Lamthiu congratulated the founding fathers and the successive leaders for leading the union thus far. Bringing in the message of love and peace, he said, “Jubilee is a time to reminiscent and to forgive one another to celebrate together.”
To take the union towards a brighter horizon, he said that younger generations must open up minds and acquire good knowledge and skills and work harder as there is no shortcut to success in life
Speaking on the importance of cultural preservation, jubilee cultural guest and EAC Phukhungri, Joshua Tikhir stated that preserving one's culture must begin from our homes. “Parents must first teach our language to children and not English.”
He said that due to advancement of modern technology, westernization has easily influenced our younger generation, which is not our culture. The oral traditional practices, customs, norms, dialect and historical places are our identity and the younger generations must use modern technologies to document both tangible and non-tangible culture as a way to preserve our culture.
Valedictory guest and President, Tikhir Students' Union, Temong Y Tikhir, spoke on peace, love and unity among Tikhirs and others.
Highlighting on the “reservation policy” in government sector, he encouraged the students not to depend only in reservations but work harder and excel through merit. Other than the government services, one should discover one's interest and work harder, he added.
Speaking on the seminar day, Assistant Professor, Shumong, stress on bridging our tradition with modernity to get quality education. He said that modern education must coexist with our traditional education in one's learning process. He encouraged the students not to give up during failures but instead learn from it and work harder as there is no gain without pain.
Jubilee Service Speaker, Henry Tikhir, acknowledged the past and the present leaders for reaching thus far. He encouraged the students to put God's first in pursuit of one's own dream.
Earlier, the President TTC, TWA, unit Unions and a host of other tribal leaders and officials attended the three day long Jubilee celebration.
