Sangtam students union reject “AASSU”

Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): A good number of Sangtam students’ unions today came out to denounce and reject a union by the name and style of “All Area Sangtam Student' Union” which had earlier allegedly rejected a decision of Sangtam students’ apex body,  the United Sangtam Students’ Conference.

Four village students' unions of the Sangtam community met on June 29 at Chungtor village and ridiculed the statement issued by so-called “All Area Sangtam Student' Union” which had on the 24declared as “null and void” a resolution of the apex USSC. The student unions of Chungtor, Lirise, Chimonger and Angangba in a joint statement today cautioned that the “distractive ideology” of “AASSU” under the self-styled leadership of one Justin Khatomong will not tolerated.

Denouncing what was stated to be to tarnish the image of the USSC and dragging in the name of the community, the unions resolved to abide by USSC. The organization has urged stern action against those “who defame the image of the community and trying to destruct the unity among Sangtam community”.

The unions have urged all the local units to be aware of anti¬-community propaganda and to abide by the constitution of the USSC at larger interest of the people. A similar joint letter was received from the students’ unions of Sangtamtilla, Tsithrongse and Murise villages. The three unions met in a joint meeting on June 30. They have condemned and refuted the statement made by “All Area Sangtam Students Union.” The unions also refuted the existence of any union by the name and style of “AASSU” in the Sangtam jurisdictions. No individual or group has right to make such baseless and anti-society statement against the apex body of the Sangtam students’ community, the union stated. The unions have appealed to the apex bodies of the Sangtam community to take stern action against the individuals and groups “who had tried to create such a chao among the Sangtam community merely for their cheap publicity and some individual gain by using fake and illegal union name.”

The students’ unions of Sangtamtilla, Tsithrongse and Murise villages have reaffirmed their support to the resolutions of the apex students’ body, the United Sangtam Students Conference.
