DIMAPUR, JAN 19 (MExN): Former Kerala Finance Minister, K Sankaranarayan, has today been appointed as the next Governor of Nagaland to replace incumbent, Shyamal Datta. A press communiqué issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, available on the official web site of the President of India, states that President APJ Abdul Kalam is pleased to appoint K. Sankaranarayan to be the Governor of Nagaland with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office after expiry of the term of office of the present Governor, Shyamal Datta.
Though the official handing-over ceremony is slated for January 27, the present Governor and the Governor-designate can opt for an alternative date based on their mutual convenience, Raj Bhavan Special Secretary, Pankaj Kumar, told The Morung Express.
An official sending-off programme for Datta and a reception for Sankaranarayan are being arranged. The State Government and Raj Bhavan are jointly working out details for success of the said programmes.
Sankaranarayan, a native of Palakad district, was Finance Minister in the A K Antony Government. He is also former convenor of the Congress-led United Democratic Front in Kerala.
Former Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief E S L Narasimhan is to be the new Governor of Chhattisgarh, according to the Rashtrapati Bhavan release.
M M Jacob, Meghalaya Governor, will hold additional charge as Arunachal Pradesh Governor in the absence on leave of Governor Shilendra Kumar Singh.
