Sanphure under Kiphire district declared ‘Alcohol Free Village’

Kiphire, October 10 (MExN): United Sangtam Heritage Village, Sanphure under Kiphire district was declared as ‘Alcohol Free Village’ on October 10. The occasion also marked “rededicating the village and its people to Christ as the head of the Heritage Village” stated an update received here. 

The press release stated that Sanphure Village Council Chairman, Sepikyu said, “his village has been getting blessing from God and therefore, the village as a whole have committed to make the village an ‘Alcohol Free village’ from this day on.” He appreciating USLP and USBLA, the two apex bodies of Sangtam community and Church body leaders for their dedication and support towards the village recognition.

Sepikyu expressed hope that “the people will be more responsible and committed to the visions laid before them to set a good example as United Sangtam Heritage Village.”

A Gospel Hymnal Procession was carried out from the church site to the entry gate of the village, where Rev Imti, Executive Secretary, USLBA led the dedicatory prayer and unveiled the Board in presence of USLP, VP and AST (Akehda Sangtamlarü Thsimüjüng) president and people of Sanphure village. The programme was chaired by Sepikyü, VCC, United Sangtam Heritage Village, the release added.

Sanphure village was declared ‘United Sangtam Heritage Village’ on June 3, 2022. Sanphure village is located at a distance of 26 km from District Hq Kiphire. Sanphure is also known for its famous local salt making.
