
Tuensang, April 13 (MExN): Sao Chang College in Tuensang celebrated its Literary Day with an engaging and vibrant programme at the college’s Multipurpose Hall, emphasizing the role of co-curricular activities in fostering leadership and holistic student development.
Addressing the gathering as the keynote speaker, Dr. T. Lal Veda Chandra Kumar, Vice Principal of Sao Chang College, underscored the transformative impact of literary participation on students’ personal and academic growth. “Participation in literary events not only refines one’s expression but also strengthens character and life skills,” he stated. He emphasized that such engagements cultivate confidence, enhance communication abilities, and prepare students to tackle real-life situations with resilience.
The event was chaired by Sangmaiyenla, Cultural and Literary Secretary of the Sao Chang College Students' Union (SCCSU). The programme began with an invocation by Hotoni Yeptho, Assistant Professor, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Soyimla Akum, Coordinator of the Literary & Magazine Committee.
A highlight of the event was an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night performed by BA 2nd Semester students of the English Department. Lemrila, a student from BA 6th Semester, also captivated the audience with a powerful spoken word performance.
During the “Competition Hour,” students took the stage for extempore speeches and a spirited group rendition of the college anthem. Dance performances by the Phut-phut Dance Crew and Yappers Dance Crew brought additional energy and color to the celebrations.
Off-stage competitions included essay writing, short story writing, and painting, offering students an opportunity to explore their creativity and express their ideas through various mediums.
Dr. S. Arenla, Member of the Literary & Magazine Committee, delivered the vote of thanks, commending the participants and organizers for their enthusiasm and dedication in making the event a success.
