Tuensang: The inauguratution of Science stream-cum-31st Freshers’ Social functions spread over in two separate sessions were held on September 14 at Sao Chang College Conference Hall.
In the first session, the college witnessed its glorious milestone with the inauguration of Science stream by Chief Guest, P. Longon, Minister PHED & Land Revenue for fulfilling the decades old aspiration of the Tuensang People in general.
The Chief Guest in his address called upon the students to resolve to march with pride and achieve their goal in the field of Science.
He recalled, in his speech, his days as a student of the college and applauded the student-teacher relationship of those days and also reminded that teachers should always command respect.
He also made an assured donation of Rs. 1,00,000 towards the cost of improvement of Science department with bonus of supplying a computer. He further donated Rs. 10,000.00 in cash for the welfare of the college union.
Other speakers on the occasion included T.C. Sangtam, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang & Chairman, College Advisory Board and Dr. Piketo, Addl. Director, Higher Education, Nagaland.
While speaking on the occasion, T.C. Sangtam mentioned the integral linkage between the Science and present generation and urged the student community for pursuit of real achievement in Science.
Dr. Piketo expressed his happiness over the induction of Science Stream in the college and promised of necessary help and cooperation in the future.
I. Elem, Head of Deptt. Of English, chaired the function in which the welcome address was delivered by Bukyim, Vice President of the college students’ Union.
Chubala, Vice Principal, delivered the vote of thanks in which she expressed her profound gratitude to all those who contributed to the great cause of the college since the time of its inception.
The inaugural function of the session was also attended by Shri C.M. Chang, Shri Nungsanglemba, Commandant, 3 N.A.P., Tribal Leaders, President TMPO, Chairman, T.T.C., Chief Engineer, PHED, and a host of dignitaries.
The 2nd session meant for Freshers Social was held with Dr. Piketo, Addl. Director, Higher Education, Nagaland as Guest of Honour. In his speech, Dr. Piketo pointed out the challenges facing the young generation and urged the students to be firm in their studies.
He also mentioned that the uniqueness of multi-tribal culture of the district should be taken as its strength.
He also donated Rs. 10,000/- towards the welfare of the student.
Other highlights of the programme were welcome address, introductory hours, exhortation by teachers, songs and entertainment. The celebration ended with a grand feast.
