SASRD holds 19th parting social

Chief Guest, I Panger Jamir along with the faculty and the outgoing students at the 19th parting social of the School of Agricultural Sciences & Rural Development, Nagaland University, Medziphema on May 18.

DIMAPUR, MAY 18 (MExN): The 19th annual parting social organized by the students’ union, School of Agricultural Sciences & Rural Development, Nagaland University, Medziphema, for the B. Sc. (Ag) Hons and M. Sc. (Ag) final years was held on May 18. I Panger Jamir, Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forest graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

In his speech, I Panger Jamir urged the students to be sensitive to change and to empower the farmers by equipping them with modern farming technologies and to disseminate the ideas that the students have learned. He also shared his ideas on bringing changes by way of building upon the strengths found in the state, which concentrates on horticultural crops and starting cooperatives/societies and thus developing enterprises which would contribute to the state’s economy immensely. He also advocated taking advantage of the rich diversity in the state to start eco-tourism. He stated that in such ways entrepreneurship could be encouraged and at the same time conservation of the environment would also be promoted. 

The programme was chaired by Mayangthemba Longkumer, President of the SU: SASRD and the welcome speech was given by Prof. M Aleminla Ao, Dean of SASRD. Prof. N S Jamir, Pro Vice Chancellor exhorted the students. Speeches on behalf of outgoing students were given by Nagato K. Aye (M. Sc) and Pynkhrawbiang Rani (B. Sc). James Tsopoe, General Secretary of the SU: SASRD delivered the vote of thanks.
