SASRD train farmers on winter crops cultivation

  Dimapur, November 12 (MExN): All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on vegetable crops, Nagaland Centre, SASRD, Nagaland University under Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) conducted farmer’s training on “Scientific cultivation of winter vegetable crops” at Zhuikhu village, Medziphema on November 8.   The training highlighted the importance of package of practices and plant protection in vegetable production, stated a press release.   It was also aimed at making the farmers aware of the benefits and advantages in growing vegetable crops, pests and diseases that are encountered during cropping season and management of pests and disease with eco-friendly tactics.   The farmers were also highlighted on some important natural pests control agents (farmers friends) and how to identify and preserve them in their field.   The first technical session on “Scientific cultivation of winter vegetable crops” was delivered by Ashwini Ananda, research scholar, Department of Horticulture, SASRD, NU and “Pest management of winter vegetable crops” was delivered by Otto Awomi, research scholar, Department of Entomology, SASRD, NU.   The second technical session on “Disease management of winter vegetable crops” was delivered by Dr Pezangulie Chakruno, Pathologist, AICRP on Soybean, SASRD, NU.   The training was attended by 63 farmer participants. The programme started with a brief introduction by Prof Akali Sema, Incharge TSP- AICRP (Vegetable Crops).   She highlighted on the importance of vegetables to the farmers and what vegetables can be grown in a village with hilly topography like Zhuikhu.   The wrap up session was conducted by Dr Waluniba, Scientist, Training Incharge, AICRP-VC, SASRD, NU, where folders and seeds of winter vegetable crops were distributed to selected farmers.
