SASU begins first phase educational tour; reiterates stand against ‘proxy teachers’

Kiphire, July 29 (MExN): With the theme ‘quality education generates quality students’, Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU) kicked off phase 1 of its educational tour at Thsinger, Thungthur, and Yingphire villages on July 26.

A press statement from SASU president, K. Chumseli Anar and general secretary, Holise Sangtam informed that the union held meeting with the village councils, GBs, teachers and the public for the reformation of quality education. The union asserted it will never allow proxy teachers within its jurisdiction. It had recently declared abolishment of ‘Proxy Teachers’ system within its jurisdiction.

“Teachers are the pillar of the pupils,” SASU asserted, asking the government teachers who are unable to perform their duties to take voluntary retirement so as to give chance to thousands of aspiring unemployed youth who are waiting in queue for job opportunity.

SASU also cautioned that it will conduct surprise checking in all schools simultaneously under its jurisdiction any time. It warned to take “stern action, including liable for termination of service” against any teacher absent for more than one month without leave or if found employing proxy teacher.

Meanwhile, the students’ body lamented that being in a backward and remote place, the schools in its jurisdiction have been deprived and neglected with poor infrastructure, no drinking water, electrification, staff quarter, white board, toilet, fencing, and fund for furniture repairs.

Regarding Government High School, Longya, it stated, the government established “nominal school” without Head Master, Assistant Headmaster, Language Teacher, Office Assistant (1 UDA), LDA-cum-Computer Assistants, peon, chowkidar and draughtsman.

It further pointed out that the school has been functioning for years without Drawing Teacher due to attachment of the teacher with SDEO, Kiphire and also the only knitting helper was transferred to Yangphi School, Kiphire.

Therefore, SASU demanded to the authority concerned to give back the rights due to the school concerned.

Meanwhile, it demanded to the government to seriously look into the genuine problems and grievances faced by the remote schools under Seyochung area in Kiphire district.

“Seyochung area being under the Aspirational district, the union hopes and believes that the fund will be utilized for genuine needs for the poor students,” the statement added.
