‘Save Life in Wild:’ Wildlife awareness in Wokha

WOKHA, OCTOBER 3 (MExN): The Wokha Forest Division in collaboration with ENVIS, Nagaland Pollution Control Board organized an awareness programme on the occasion of World Wildlife Week under the theme ‘Save Life in Wild’ at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Doyang on October 2. 

The programme was chaired by Abeno, Livelihood Expert. Suman WM Sivachar, IFS, DFO Wokha in his keynote address emphasized the students on the importance of preserving wildlife habitat. Human urbanisation and activities is one of the key reasons in affecting the habitat of wildlife, Sivachar stated.

Short speeches were delivered by Limitsa S Sangtam, Programme Officer, ENVIS Nagaland and Tanmay Sarkar, Principal VKV Doyang. Limitsa highlighted the activities and functions of ENVIS and the Nagaland Pollution Control Board. He also encouraged the gathering to protect, conserve and preserve wildlife. Presentation on wildlife of Nagaland was presented by Lansothung Lotha, Range Forest Officer Baghty. During his presentation, he encouraged sustainable use of natural resources “as we are only burrowing which belongs to the future generation.”

A short documentary on conservation of wildlife was also screened during the programme. Resource materials and knowledge products like caps, diaries, phamplets and newsletters were distributed to the students and teachers. 
Vote of thanks was delivered by Lesemew, Office Assistant, Wokha Forest Division. The programme was also attended by officials of the North East Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), Doyang.
