KOHIMA, MARCH 18 (MExN): The Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) has expressed concern over the frequent forest fires that have been occurring under its jurisdiction, leading to extensive environmental harm.
In a press release, SAYO President Zasitsolie Bio, along with other members of the organization, highlighted the increasing frequency of such fires within their jurisdiction. It noted that the persistent fires are not only causing significant damage to the environment but also threatening the livelihood of local communities.
The organization reiterated its commitment to the "BYE-LAWS 2021," which outlines strict regulations aimed at preventing forest and jungle fires across the Southern Angami Areas and villages. Under these bylaws, individuals or groups found responsible for causing forest fires—whether through negligence or intentional actions—will face penalties and judicial action, depending on the extent of the damage caused.
In light of this, SAYO has urged all residents to refrain from activities that could inadvertently lead to forest fires, stressing the importance of preventative measures to protect the local environment.
