In a prelude to its upcoming 25 years celebration, the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) held a sanitation day in the Southern Angami region on October 14. In all the thirteen villages, the youth under the Southern Angami regions participated in the sanitation drive by clearing the village footpaths, lanes and roads.

“In the olden times, our ancestors upheld the values of dignity of labour, cleanliness and purity,” said SAYO President Neisizo Kuotsu adding that the sanitation drive is held in order to continue this tradition of upholding such values especially among its young.

Under the theme ‘Rekindling traditions’, the SAYO will be celebrating its 25 years at Viswema village in December, whereby a series of seminars and activities will be held to commemorate the celebration.

Basing on the theme, the SAYO will be organizing seminars on October 28 at Kezo Town and Viswema village on the issues of conservations of wildlife and biodiversity in relation to its traditions and customs. With a firm belief that the roots of a community- its traditions, culture- are what strengthen the community, the SAYO hopes to rekindle its heritage and traditions and further regain its relevance in today’s world.
