Kohima, October 3 (MExN): Under the aegis of Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, State Bank of India along with other PSU banks organized a customer out-reach camp (Gharak Mela Phase-I) for Kohima district at AMK Conference Hall on October 3.


Inaugurating the two-day Camp, a DIPR report stated that Neikiesalie Kire, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs called upon the private and public sector banks to help the general public in assisting through various beneficial schemes and credit loans etc. especially to farmers and small business communities to build up their economy. Adding that banks which receives only their customers’ deposits and does not help the needy citizens in return should not be functioning in the State. He also urged the beneficiaries to use funds judiciously whatever schemes and loans have been provided by the banks. 


Assistant General Manager SBI main branch Kohima, Hepuni Bismarck said that the main objective of the awareness Camp was to highlight the various social benefits to the general public. Adding that awareness camp was to popularize and to disseminate the information that government of India has been trying to make a complete digitize platform in all private and public sector banks in transactions and many ways. He said without using manual forms, one can open online bank account, TV recharge, life insurance etc. He requested the attendees to create more awareness of various credit schemes which bank offers. Stating that schemes are available for SHGs, contractors, entrepreneurs, farmers and business but information are not passed on properly to the general public. He added that Ministry of Finance which has launched a customer outreach initiative to provide easy access to bank credit which will include vehicle loan, housing loan, personal consumer loan, education loan and also loans to MSMEs (including e-Mudra), Stand up India and agriculturists including Self Help Groups. 


Apart from providing easy access to bank credit, the initiative will also focus on financial inclusion schemes and digital payment. Altogether 80 beneficiaries received the loan during the Loan Mela given by nine banks.
