SBKK hosts 1st Men’s Open Volleyball Tournament

Kohima, October 4 (MExN): The 1st edition of Men’s Open Volleyball Tournament was  organised by Sakhabama Baptist Khriesarüü Krotho (SBKK) on October 2 under the theme” Let Your Action Shine” at Sakhabama Local Ground under  Kohima  district.

The inaugural session was graced by Limakumla Pongener, EAC Kezocha, who encouraged the youth to embrace sportsmanship and discipline, noting that today’s young people are highly enthusiastic about sports.

She highlighted that while the origins of sports can be traced back to ancient Greece, the modern Olympic Games were revived to promote peace and understanding among nations, celebrate the achievements of the human body, and encourage international fellowship and goodwill.

The inaugural session was chaired by Pelesato Chüzho, Associate Pastor, SBC, while Visüzo Rhakho, Chairman SBKK delivered the welcome address.

Altogether, 22 teams from Nagaland, Manipur and Assam joined the tournament. The matches were conducted under the supervision and guidance of the Kohima District Volleyball Association (KDVA), who served as the match officials.

The closing ceremony was graced by Neilasanu Sachü, Assistant Research Officer, Art & Culture, as the Valedictory Guest, with Vikhoto Kapu, Co-Convenor of the Organising Committee, chairing the session.

Zing Zing emerged as the champion of the tournament and walked away with a cash prize of ₹40,000.

Zenith Kezo Town secured the 1st Runner-up position with a cash prize of ₹30,000 while Spike Squad Kohima and United Spikers Kohima finished as semifinalists.

Best Spiker went to Vimechozo Thupre of Zenith Kezo Town while Best Setter was awarded to K. Abinash of Zing Zing Kezo Town.

Thejangulie Yongo, Convenor of the Organising Committee, proposed the vote of thanks.

As the first-ever edition, the tournament marked an important milestone for the community, bringing together villagers, church leaders, and youth in a spirit of unity and healthy competition.
