Dimapur, October 25 (MExN): The Sümi Baptist Pastors' Union (SBPU) held its 31st annual session at Purana Bazar Sümi Baptist Church, East Dimapur, under the theme ‘Bible lo ide iloni.’ 

The three day session from October 22 to 24 was attended by a total of 294 pastors from the WSBAK, SBAK & SABAK, which make up the SBPU. The session began with a welcome note from Vikato M Swu, Class-1 Contractor.

Speaking on the theme, WSBAK Executive Secretary, Rev Dr Phughoto Sema said that the theme—returning to the Bible, was relevant in the present context. He encouraged church leaders to stand firm in righteousness and guide their congregation towards God’s truth.

On the second day, the speakers which included Rev Ahoto Awomi (Atoizu), Rev Dr Kavito Zhimomi, Principal TTC and Dr Hesheto Chishi, Director, Indigenous Cultural Society Dimapur, dwelt on different aspects of leadership in the Churches. Addressing the gathering, Executive Engineer for PHED (Zunheboto), Er Kitoshe Aye encouraged them to take care of their congregation in the same way a doctor takes care of patients. He said that pastors were special because they have been chosen to serve and do God’s work.

A special prayer session for the Sümi community was also led by DSBC pastor Juliet Shikhu.

Nagaland Minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi also spoke during a session and said that Church leaders should not differentiate between the poor and the rich but instead focus on winning souls for the God. Pastor, UBC, Satakha, Rev Honito Chophy spoke on how one can mature in faith by distancing oneself from sin and living according to the principles of Christianity.

Meanwhile, Rev Akhato, Sr Pastor Laza Baptist Church called on the church leaders to come together in one faith and unity to take the community forward. 

The three day event also witnessed a number of special songs from the Nagageneous group, Church Choir, Purana Bazar Sümi Baptist Church East Dimapur, SABCK (SABAK), Timeless Band Chekiye Village, and Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Naharbari.
