The State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Nagaland today released “A study on the School Development Plan in Nagaland,” “Report on the Pilot Project on Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Module & Diary for School Heads” and video documentary: “An Extra Mile” at SIEMAT Hall, SCERT, Kohima.

It was released by Kevirale-ü Kerhuo, Director SCERT, Nagaland. Kerhuo congratulated the State Institute of Educational Management and Training (SIEMAT) and the School Leadership Academy (SLA) team for completing the projects.

She said National Education Policy 2020 advocates for lifelong learning and research to combat obsoleteness in knowledge, skills, and experience.

Aligned with this vision, SIEMAT and SCERT conducted research on the School Development Plan across 20 Schools in Kohima.
The SDP is a strategic plan for school improvement, encapsulating priorities, measures to raise standards, allocated resources, and intended outcomes, she said.

She was optimistic that the study's outcomes will not only benefit SCERT but the entire educational community by identifying areas for improvement in the education system.

The CPD Diary, an initiative by SLA and SCERT, supports professional development for school heads, enhancing their capabilities.

Recognising the power of documentaries and films to create emotional connections and provide a human experience, she said that the School Leadership Academy at SCERT, produced a video documentary on the commendable contributions of the school head at Government Middle School Jakhama.

The programme was chaired by Achetla Ao, Jt Director & Cell Head, SLA, SIEMAT while a special song was presented by Naroti Jamir. Vote of thanks was proposed by Benjungdenla Yaden, Reader, SCERT.

Study on School Development Plan in Nagaland
Izeule Ramlia said that the Government of India encourages planning from the grass root level likewise in the education the centre encourages that planning starts from the schools. Therefore, the RTE Act 2009 envision that the School Development Plan to be initiated by all schools. This research was undertaken with the objective to study the awareness of RTE Act 2009 and RTE Rule among the SMC, SH and Educational Administrator, to study the Awareness of School Heads, SMC/SMDC and Educational Administrator with regard to the guidelines of RTE Act, to study the initiative of School Development Plan at school level.

11 districts across the state of Nagaland were covered for this study with 300 School Heads and 22 Educational Administration.

Through this study, it can be concluded that out of the 300 School Heads and SMC/SMDC members, and 22 Educational Administrators, majority are aware about the RTE Act 2009 and RTE Rule 2010.

CPD module & Diary for school heads
Medemmongla Jamir said that the School Leadership Academy, SCERT Nagaland developed a report on the pilot project on Module and Diary for School heads with suggestive CPD activities covering significant areas of teacher education, tailored to the time and needs of teachers and school heads. The suggested activities under the 50 hours of CPD programme comprised of various programmes and activities for participants with allotted time for each activity. The objectives of the pilot project were to understand the efficacy of the CPD Module and Diary and also to assess the areas of improvement in the CPD for school heads.

The CPD diary was initially implemented as a pilot project in 25 schools located in Kohima district. In order to maintain the authenticity of the project, all category of schools were considered. Out of 25 schools, 20 schools were from government school of which 10 schools were from urban area and 10 from rural area. 5 schools were from private owned schools of which 3 from urban area and 2 from rural area.

The piloting was for 1 academic year i.e, from February 2022 to November 2022. The District Education Officer (DEO) office Kohima assessed the CPD diary on 5 parameters.

Video Documentary: An Extra Mile
Thebi Joseph Shupao and Swedesunuo Zao informed that The School Leadership Academy (SLA), SCERT, developed a video documentary – ‘The Extra Mile’ based on Government Middle School Jakhama ‘A’ for one academic year. The documentation started from the beginning of the academic session of 2022-2023 that covered the various stages of school progress, development and the innovative practice's in GMS Jakhama ‘A.’

The main objectives of the video documentary is to develop an awareness of various innovative school practices, to motivate school heads in Nagaland.

Four core subject (English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science) experts developed an exemplar for the video documentary Project. Integration of vocational education in subject specific area was incorporated in the project.

'The Extra Mile' highlighted the efforts of Swedesunuo Zao, head teacher of GMS Jakhama 'A'. It was produced by Hyper Optic Studio, Nagaland.
