School and food for village children

DIMAPUR, SEPT 22 (MExN): The Government Primary School (GPS) Lirise village launched its Mid-day Meal program on September 13 where more than 100 students were fed at the school during class hours. The program was attended by A. Wopen Lotha, ADC Longkhim along with Chopongse Sangtam, SIS Longkhim. The ADC in his address called upon the people to extend full co-operation to the school authorities for proper maintenance of the GPS in order to maximise its benefits for the people.  He also interacted with the teaching staffs and the Village Education Committee (VEC) members.

While appreciating the noble service of the teachers, the ADC urged them to work harder by providing quality education for the upliftment of the poor students in the society. He pointed out to the VEC members the need to maintain proper accounts of funds received from government grants. He further explained about the communitisation program wherein the VEC will be delegated with administrative and financial power for the management of elementary school education. This he said would create a sense of ownership by way of active participation of the community in the management of the school. “The success of communitisation of the school will depend mainly upon the active participation of the community and sincerity of the teachers”, he said.

Chopongse SIS appraised the gathering and expressed appreciation that the village community, an administrative officer and an educationist had come out together with a keen interest to promote quality based education in the village. Chopongse urged upon the VEC to cooperate with the teachers for the upliftment of educational system in the school. He impressed upon the teachers and VEC members that the future was in the hands of the young students.
