School dropout between classes 6 to 8 ‘very high’ in Peren district

• More boys drop out of schools
• More girls drop out due to bullying 

 

Jalukie, February 27 (MExN): Sensitization and orientation programme on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) for religious leaders, community leaders, NGOs, parents and teachers was conducted on the theme ‘Gender Equality’ at Women Welfare Association Hall, Jalukie Town on February 27. 

 


A DIPR report stated that speaking as resource person, Narola Chuba stressed on the topic “Fostering the Girl Child Education'”. She pointed out that as per the reports collected, in Peren district the rate of school dropout students between classes 6 to 8 is very high and more boys are dropping out of schools as compared to the girl child. She also added that harassment and bullying are some of the barriers or the factor that causes the dropping out of girl child in schools and it is the vulnerable people who get more bullied and harassed. 

 


Therefore, she encouraged the teachers to understand that it is their responsibility to impart the importance of education to the students and further urged the teachers to focus on creating a girl friendly environment even in schools.

 


Narola Chuba also mentioned, creating more equal educational opportunities for students begins in the classroom and with the teachers and it is important that both male and female students are also given the same discipline for the same action. Furthermore, she urged the teachers to treat their students fairly and creates an environment where students feel equally able to take part.

 


Professor Buno Zetsuir in her address to the congregation stressed on the topic “Celebrating the importance of Girl Child.” While speaking she emphasized on five valuable points which includes; Fear of the Lord; Importance of education; value of honesty, time management, accountability, responsibility, cleanliness and dignity of labour; Challenges faced by the girl child and Role of the parents.

 


The programme was organized by Peren District Administration in collaboration with DLCW, Education Department & Nagaland University and was chaired by Women Welfare Officer (WWO), MSK BBBP Peren, Heirieteilie.
