Kohima, June 11 (MExN): The Directorate of School Education has informed students and parents about the educational opportunities offered by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, which provides education through the Open and Distance Learning system with the mission of "Education for All."
According to the Directorate, NIOS gives special emphasis to girls and women, rural youth, working individuals, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST), Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories, sportspersons, differently abled learners and other disadvantaged groups.
NIOS conducts public examinations for Secondary (Class X) and Senior Secondary (Class XII) courses twice every year, in April and October. In addition, it also conducts On Demand Examinations (ODEs) for Secondary and Senior Secondary courses in two blocks of the academic year—from December to March and from June to September.
The Directorate stated that, under the provisions governing admissions through Stream-2 of NIOS, unsuccessful candidates of the Secondary (Class X) and Senior Secondary (Class XII) examinations are eligible to appear in the ensuing public examinations scheduled for October-November 2026.
Such learners may also avail themselves of the opportunity to appear in the On Demand Examinations under Stream-3 for Class X and Stream-4 for Class XII, which are scheduled to be conducted from June to September 2026.
The Directorate further informed that the detailed admission procedure, prescribed fee structure and other relevant guidelines are available on the NIOS admission portal. Students, parents and guardians have been advised to utilise these opportunities to continue their education by enrolling in the appropriate courses.
