Dimapur, March 5 (MExN): The El-Shaddai Academy at Dimapur May well become one of the first school in the state to have a ‘nature or eco club’ if the resolution taken at a work shop organized by the Naga Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Naga SPCA) is taken out in letter.
The class IX and X students of the El Shaddai Academy towards the end of the workshop unanimously resolved to have a Nature Club in the school. The also resolved to create awareness and preserve environment and to educate people about the need to protect wildlife.
The Chairman of the Naga SPCA, Dr I Longri said that the school will be one of the pioneering schools in Nagaland, if not in Dimapur to have an Eco Club at the School. He also said that the club will be a branch of the Naga SPCA and the club will be supervised by a teacher. All the participants of the workshop became members of the Naga SPCA for one year.
The Chairman of the Naga SPCA said that excursion tours to sanctuaries such as the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary would be sponsored for the students in the near future also.
Hope in the students:
The students of El-Shaddai Academy are all out for the Eco Club and more so they expressed their happiness over the workshop which they said has been very educative.
Achi, a class X student and a girls captain when asked what she has learnt from the workshop, replied, that she will be kind to animals and also create awareness to people to be kind to animals.
Gedevinu, another class X student also said that she will start to educate others about wildlife conservation, her friend, Vina had a much powerful impact from the workshop, she said that she would stop eating meat, on being asked what she would do after attending the workshop.
Dr Murali Rai, Chirf Executive, WIF, Kaziranga was hopeful that such workshop with the students will make a big difference. ‘School children are the eyes of the society’ said Pai and expressed his optimism about the students carrying out conservation work.
New venture:
The Naga SPCA, Chairman said that organizing such workshop with the students is a new venture in order to include the school children in the conservation of wildlife in the state. He said that the Naga SPCA would be organizing such workshops in one or two more schools, though he said that they are not yet decided on which school.
