Schools in Kiphire embrace Robotics & AI technology

Students from both private and government school under Kiphire district attended the National Science day 2020 observed under the theme ‘Catch them young’ at Hopongkyü Memorial Hall on February 27 and 28. 

 


It was organized by the Nagaland Science & Technology Council under Directorate of Science & Technology in collaboration with the Innovation Hub Nagaland Science Centre at Dimapur, the Department of Science & Technology, District Education Office of Kiphire and District Administration. 

 


Speaking on the second day under the theme ‘Women in Science’, Dr Zavei Hiese, Chief Scientific Officer, Department of Science and Technology informed the gathering that Nagaland Science & Technology Council in co-ordination with Innovation Hub Nagaland Science Center, Dimapur is conducting the second phase of the ‘school level awareness programme on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence’ in Kiphire district. 

 


He stated that the training is intended to create awareness among teachers and students at school level on the latest Robotics & AI technology to take ‘education technology’ to a new level. 

 


He said that on day one of the training, two teachers and four students from each school were trained to assemble and code 'arduino robots.' 

 


Based on the training, an inter school robotic competition was conducted on the second day to commemorate the National Science day. 

 


Dr Zavei dwelling on the background of organizing the training pointed out that it is to create awareness on the latest technology on Robotics & AI since students are the next generation tech and also students can take up career in this field and therefore, it is important to create interest at early age. 

 


Stating why it is important to create awareness, he said, “it is to sharpen the preparedness of students, infuse creative thinking, engagement and programming skills.” 

 


Dr Zavei added that the department is also giving robots to all schools attending the training to take it back to their own schools and teach others to motivate and create a better one or to do something useful to our society.

 


Delivering a short speech, James T Khulu Tikhir, SDO(C) Kiphire Hq extended gratitude on behalf of the district to the department for organizing the training for schools in Kiphire “who otherwise would not have got an opportunity to gain so much knowledge about science in just two days.” He encouraged the students to make the best use of the training so that the district will benefit for the growth and progress. 

 


He also encouraged students to do better in life as there was no distinction between boy and girl in the present generation saying that in most case girls have outperformed boys. He called upon the students to give equal importance to all subject as it will become handy in future for competitive exam. 

 


The programme concluded with the Dr Zavei Hiese handing over two robotics kits each along with certificates to all the participating schools. 

 


It was chaired by Tsipongla Area Education Officer, while vote of thanks was delivered by Lichumse Sangtam, Asst. District Coordinator, DEO Kiphire.

 


The robotics training will cover Seyochung and Punhro block on February 29 and March 2 respectively.
