PHEK, NOVEMBER 10 (MExN): Educational institutions in Phek village were sensitized on the harmful effects of tobacco recently. The awareness programme was consecutively held at Government High school, Government Middle school and Baptist Mission High School, Phek village. The resource person was Dr. Reyosalu Lase Vizo, District Nodal officer (NTCP) Phek.
District Media Officer, Phek in a press release informed hat Dr Lase sensitized the students on the harmful effects of tobacco and how the chemical in tobacco is one of the main agents of cancer. Also presenting the tobacco statistics of Nagaland, she informed that the State has the highest percentage of consumption of smokeless tobacco and ranks second in tobacco consumption. Drawing caution, she urged the students not to indulge in the habit of consumption of tobacco which can be destructive to one’s body. Leaflets on the harmful effects of tobacco were also handed out to the students.
