Schools in Wokha declared ‘Tobacco Free’

Wokha, May 31 (MExN): World No Tobacco day was observed at the Likya Community Hall, Wokha under the theme ‘Tobacco & Heart Disease’ on May 31.  

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Meribeni Odyuo DNO, NTCP Wokha focussed on how tobacco affects the health of the heart and cause heart attack and other cardiovascular diseases like stroke which are the world’s leading causes of death. The two schools, namely, Mt Sinai and Isaiah Ability School were declared ‘Tobacco Free Schools’ and certificates and posters were handed out by Jongshimongla, District Education Officer, Wokha. Theme speaker, Dr Wemeri Khutsoh, SMO, Dr M M District Hospital gave a presentation on ‘Tobacco & Heart Disease.’ Shanchobeni Panel Lawyer WDLSA spoke on the Cigarette & Other Tobacco Products Act.  

Mharoni R Ezong, Social Worker, NTCP chaired the programme and vote of thanks was pronounced by R Savino Data Entry Operator, NTCP Wokha.
