Sci-Connect Program held in Dimapur

Dimapur, July 15 (MExN): The second phase of Sci-Connect in Nagaland was held from July 11 to 13 at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur under the theme "Nurturing Young Talents in North East in Science."  

The programme was organized by Vigyan Prasar, Ministry of Science & Technology, GOI along with the Nagaland Science & Technology Council (NASTEC), Department of Science & Technology, Kohima. Sci-Connect Phase 1 had students of Classes 8 & 9 from 14 schools covering 5 districts of Nagaland sitting for screening examination with 15 students being selected for the second phase.  

The inaugural session was chaired by Research Scientist, Dr. Merino Visa; Member Secretary, Dr. Zavei Hiese delivered the welcome address while Sachin Narwadiya , Scientist ‘C’, Vigyan Prasar gave a key note address. Gihukali Chishi, Programme Coordinator gave a brief report on the Sci-Connect Phase 1 held in Nagaland and was followed by Vote of Thanks by Ditho Katiry, Scientist ‘C’ NASTEC.  

Resource persons namely Kapil Tripathi, Scientist, Vigyan Prasar, Ayan Saha, Sandipan Dhar and Narendra Singh took part in the technical session through hands on activities.  

On the third day, the 15 selected students participated in the quiz competition where they were divided into 5 teams comprising of 3 students each. Vitono Gugu Haralu was the quiz master of the competition which will be telecast in Doordarshan.  

Sheying of Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya, Mokokchung, Peter Maheo of St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School, Kohima, and Michael of Bethesda Higher Secondary School of Team E emerged as the winner of the competition. The trio will represent the state and take part in the regional quiz competition to be held in Guwahati.  

Valedictory session along with prize distributions and certificates to the participants concluded the three day session of the Sci-Connect Second Phase program.
