Pfutsero ADC Japheth Woch launches ‘Scrap Market – A waste to wealth initiative’ at Pfutsero in Phek district on October 1.
Pfutsero, October 3 (MExN): The Pfutsero Town Council (PTC) has undertaken a novel initiative in Solid Waste Management in the form of a “Scrap Market – A waste to wealth initiative,” which was officially launched by Japheth Woch, NCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner & Administrator, Pfutsero Town Council (PTC) on October 1.
This innovative initiative was constructed with the 1st prize money for Cleanest ULB and Best Innovative Solutions, 2022.
The main objective of this Scrap Market as a Material Recovery Facility includes collective participation in waste management with a target to generate wealth out of wastes and also imbibe the principles of 3Rs in solid waste management- reduce, reuse & recycle.
The launching programme was attended by major stakeholders like Pfutsero Town Welfare Committee, Ward Authorities & GBs, and Chakhesang Mothers’ Association, representative of Chakhesang Public Organization, Pfutsero Town Traders’ Union, Chakhesang Women Welfare Society, Pfutsero Town Mothers’ Association and Pfutsero Town Youth Organization.
PTC is proactively structuring and developing the solid waste management system and infrastructures since the last few years. Towards this endeavour, PTC has developed a fully fenced Dumping site spreading over an area of about 2.5 acres.
The legacy waste of the last two decades had been transferred into a landfill and bio capped and constructed a material recovery facility attached to the Dumping Site under the 14 Finance Commission Basic Grants. Plastic Banks have been installed in all the wards.
The purpose of Scrap Market Material Recovery Facility is oriented towards augmenting the solid waste management infrastructure.
Similarly, under the Waste to Wealth Initiative, the PTC is exploring and developing Model Home Composting Systems in order to encourage the citizens to convert wet wastes into manure as the mobile garbage collection infrastructure is inadequate for collection of segregated wastes from the households.
In this regard, the bulk waste generators have been identified.
Meanwhile, PTC envisages to explore innovative solutions and continue streamline the system on solid waste management.
