Scribes in Manipur resumed work on Saturday after suspending their cease work strike. The scribes under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) were on cease work strike since March 4 following threats from two rival militant groups.

AMWJU and EGM announced the resumption of work on Saturday. With the scribes resuming work, local cable networks have started broadcasting news from Saturday afternoon. Evening newspapers also circulated while other newspapers will hit stands from Sunday.

The scribes’ bodies took the decision to suspend the cease work strike in pursuant of the resolution taken at a public convention held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Friday, a joint statement of the AMWJU and EGM said. It, however, condemned all forms of attacks and threats, including the unsolved issue of hurling bombs at the office of Poknapham and People’s Chronicle by an unidentified person. The statement urged the Home department to expedite closure of the case by arresting the individual responsible for the bomb attack.

AMWJU and EGM acknowledged the sentiment of the public leaders who spoke at the convention and thanked them for their support to the media of Manipur at such crucial moments when the media in Manipur was facing hardships. As per resolution taken, the media organisations called everyone not to give any obstruction to the media.
