Dimapur, September 5 (MExN): A former Lok Sabha Member of Parliament has sought an “inspection team” from the Centre, understood to be for scrutinizing the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) in Nagaland state. Wangyuh Konyak today addressed a letter to the prime minister expressing doubts about the implementation of the rural employment scheme in the state.
“In Nagaland, Government of Nagaland has divided into two groups (1) As per guidelines (2) VVIP allotment in terms of lakhs and awarding the work order to individuals. According to my understanding and the guidelines given by the government of India it is purely to engage the people for 100 days against some work, but government of Nagaland has not done in accordance with the guidelines,” Konyak stated in his letter. He said records in the registers available have shown “fully completed,” but the state government have “been fooling the government of India with clear report on implementation on the NREGA scheme.”
Making these points, Konyak requested the prime minister to depute “one inspection team immediately before it becomes worst or otherwise issue direction to implement the scheme as per guideline.” He said that the government of India, Ministry of Rural Development had introduced the NREGA for the benefit of the people in the country, particularly the economically weaker sections. “Kindly treat this letter as very serious case,” he added.
