SDPDB Pughoboto highlights harmful effects of weedicide

‘Precautions should be taken while handling chemicals before the farmers face its ill effects’

Pughoboto, October 5 (MExN): The Sub-Divisional Planning Development Board, Pughoboto meeting was held under the chairmanship of SDPDB Chairman and MLA Vikheho Y. Swu at the Community Hall Ghatashi Town on October 5.   During the meeting, a DIPR report stated that SDAO, Pughoboto, Myanthung Patton gave a power point presentation on the departmental activities undertaken under NFSM, PMKSY, RAD, SMAM etc.  

Giving a special focus on ill-effects of weedicides, Patton highlighted on herbicides used and its impact where he said that herbicides are chemical substances that are toxic to plants and used to destroy unwanted plants. He explained on the advantages and disadvantages of herbicides. He added that ecological effects of pesticides are loss of species diversity among the food chain and food web, effect on pollinators, nutrient cycling in ecosystem, soil erosion, structure and fertility, etc. He further said precautions should be taken while handling chemicals before the farmers face its ill effects.  

Rural Connect NGO Lazami village worker, Botoshe also highlighted on the organic farming for food security, self-Reliance and eco-friendly hygiene products.  

Dwelling on Waste management practices presentation, Peace Activities & Social worker Kahuli Swu, from Pro-Rural group, appraised how we can make "waste to gold". Swu explained on the different types of waste such as bio-degradable waste, kitchen waste, vegetables etc. Social worker Vikuto Achumi also spoke on the household level garbage composting.  

Alobo Naga speaking on the forthcoming Thuwnu-ni festival to be held at Pughoboto from 15 to 17 November under the theme "Back to the woods" said that Thuwnuni festival is like a preparation of hornbill festival. He said the festival is to generate livelihood opportunity to both rural people as well as to entrepreneurs, promote, preserve, and sustain traditional culture etc. He highlighted that this festival will be unique and interesting as well as plastic free. He said many tourists are expecting to participate and requested to the villagers and the departments to give support for its grand success.  

Dr. Visa highlighted on Measles Rubbela and said that to reach the target 4.11 lakhs, our state parents have to send their children for the vaccination to avoid the disease. He said so far 12 crore population have been vaccinated in India with no adverse reaction. He urged upon the village leaders to propagate this vaccination and avail the opportunity which is being given free of cost by the government.  

Earlier, ADC Pughoboto Phuleshe K. Yepthomi reviewed the last meeting minute. The house also welcomed new member SDPO Senti Jamir. The Chairman, while dwelling on the last meeting minutes mentioned on the awareness on Green Belt Zone in Pughoboto area, coffee grower and biodiversity etc. He also called upon the people to control the use of salt and 2, 4-D, Pesticides. He said that the awardee for the ‘Clean Village Award 2018 (Rs 5 lakh under LADP)’ under Pughoboto Division will also get one bucket each in every household for waste management and the remaining amount will be handed over. Pughoboto SDPDB also resolved to be an organic Sub -Division.
