KOHIMA, OCTOBER 22 (MExN): The State Election Commission (SEC), Nagaland has issued guidelines for the identification of electors during the forthcoming poll scheduled on October 28, at Ward-11 (Zhipa) under the Pfutsero Town Council.
According to a notification issued from Kohima, and in pursuance of sub-rule (4) of Rule 54 of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules, 2023, the Commission stated that voters will be required to produce one valid identification document at the polling station for the purpose of establishing their identity.
The acceptable documents include Aadhaar Card, Indian Passport, Driving Licence, Service Identity Card issued to employees by the State or Central Government, Public Sector Undertakings or Public Limited Companies, Bank or Post Office Passbook with photograph, PAN Card, Pension Document with photograph, and Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate issued by the Deputy Commissioner or Additional Deputy Commissioner.
It further clarified that any of the above documents available only in the name of the head of the family may also be used for identification of other members of the family. Likewise, a document issued in the name of any other family member may be accepted for identification, provided that the voter can be clearly identified on the basis of the particulars appearing in the document and to the satisfaction of the Presiding Officer.
Minor discrepancies in the entries relating to the elector’s name, father’s, mother’s or husband’s name, sex, age or address as recorded in the electoral roll shall be ignored, and the elector shall be permitted to cast their vote if their identity can otherwise be established to the satisfaction of the Presiding Officer or Polling Officer.
The Commission has further notified that no elector will be allowed to exercise his or her franchise unless they produce one of the documents prescribed for identification by the State Election Commission.
