Sechü Zubza FC wins 25th Classic Cup 2019

Sechü Zubza FC today defeated former champions Puliebadze Club Jotsoma via tie-breaker in the final match to emerge as the champions of 25th edition of the Classic Cup 2019 played here at Kohima Local Ground.


The final match ended in 1-1 draw during the stipulated time.


With Medoneituo Sekhose scoring for Sechü Zubza FC in the 54th minute, while Ngachonhor scored the equalizer for Puliebadze Club in the 60th minute.


During the penalty shootout, Sechü Zubza beat Puliebadze Club by 5-3 to take the title.


Neiba Kronu, minister of Planning and Co-ordination, Land Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs graced the occasion as the guest of honour.


Speaking on the occasion, he asked the sportsperson to be committed, disciplined and follows a strict diet reminding them that there is no shortcut to success.


He said good sportsperson should struggle to reach higher level.


He also congratulated the Classic Club for conducting the tournament for 25 years and also for the community service they are doing for the state.


He said the PDA government under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is committed to encourage the young sportspersons in the state so that they can compete with the other states in the country.


The champions Sechü Zubza FC received a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh while runners-up Puliebadze Club awarded with Rs. 2 lakh.


Two losing semi finalist New Market XI and Kohima Eagles received Rs. 50,000 each.


The individual awards includes player of the tournament also received motor bike along with citations, a bicycle each awarded to Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, Best Midfield, Best Forward and Highest Scorer.


New Market XI- the most participated team of the tournament received Rs. 25,000 along with citation.


The best coach & manager got Rs. 5000 each, referee of the tournament- Rs. 5000. Other prizes included; Best Discipline Team- Rs, 10,000, Most loveable player- Rs. 5000 and photo shoot of the Tournament- Rs.10, 000.
