Second batch of BASE at Kohima

Dimapur, February 2 (MExN): The formal inauguration of the Second batch of BASE (Bosco Academy for Skills and Employment) –was held at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kohima, Nagaland. Fr. Theotimus Lakra in a press release informed that Mhalezothie Khezie, Additional Director of Administrative Training Institute, Kohima, Nagaland was the chief guest. In his speech he emphasised on the need to focus our attention on the development and the opportunities those that are available to us. Also present at the inaugural ceremony were Fr. Dennis, the Rector and Principal of Don Bosco Higher  Secondary School Kohima, Bro. Sunny the Province Coordinator of DB Tech, Fr. Theotimus Lakra, Director of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kohima.
The courses offered at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Kohima are Hospitality (Hotel Management), Retails (Sale & Marketing) and ITES (Information Technology for enabled Services). These are free courses for three months. The candidate has to fulfil the following criteria to be eligible for the BASE programme, (a) Minimum qualification should be class X pass, (b) the candidate should be between the age of 18 – 35 and (c) should be have BPL (Below Poverty Line) category. At present, at the centre there are 96 candidates undergoing the training. After the completion of three months of course the candidates are given job placement assistance and the candidates are monitored for one year after they are placed.
It can be noted that BASE – Bosco Academy for skills and Employment – a livelihood project supported by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, was launched by Dr. B.K. Sinha, IAS (Secretary, MoRD, Government of India) at Don Bosco Technical Institute, New Delhi. With it DB Tech aims at empowering youth from below poverty line (BPL). Under this project, around 46000 underprivileged youth from 25 states will trained in market driven courses and placed in entry level jobs in various sectors.
