Security beefed up in Kohima, Dimapur

Dimapur, Nov 27 (MExN): Following the assassination of Late Hesso Mao and the firing at Xavier Rütsa, security has been beefed up in and around the capital city of Kohima. Contingents of the Indian Army were seen patrolling alongside personnel of the Nagaland Armed Police in the roads of Kohima. Of late, crimes of serious nature have been carried out intermittently both at Kohima and the commercial hub Dimapur.

Random checking at strategic places within Kohima city limits are also being carried out by Police.

Dimapur Police today confided that besides the usual patrolling of the streets by their mobile squads, more personnel were being concentrated for patrolling as well as vehicle frisking duties. A Nagaland Police source said that they were working hand in hand with personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Indian Reserve Battalion. “We assign a guide or a member of an NGO to help the CRPF or the IRB in patrolling duties,” he said.

Echoing along the same lines, Kohima Police told The Morung Express that security around the capital had been strengthened as a preventive measure against the possible outbreak of crimes during the festive season. Besides other security agencies, the Assam Rifles is also assisting the Police in maintaining peace and tranquility in Kohima. Security is especially being heightened before the Hornbill festival and Statehood day celebrations.
