Medziphema, May 8 (MExN): The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, in collaboration with KVK Peren, launched a Seed Village Programme at Libamphai village, Peren district, on May 3. The programme saw participation from officials of the Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland, ICAR scientists, members of the Libamphai Village Council, and 30 farmers. Dr. KL Meena, Head of KVK Peren, welcomed the gathering and underscored the importance of community-based seed production.

Underscoring the importance of farmer-centric initiatives and community participation in sustainable agricultural practices, Pingkham village chairman graced the event, an ICAR release informed. The initiative aims to enhance seed self-sufficiency and promote the use of high-quality seeds among local farmers, it said. 

At the event, Dr Patu Zeliang and Dr Harendra Verma explained the seed village model, highlighting its role in reducing external seed dependency. 

Special Guest Dr Zeliegai Ndang, DAO, Peren, also lauded the efforts of ICAR and KVK in promoting seed security and urged farmers to utilise the opportunity for better crop yield and income generation. It also includied a feedback session from local farmers. Maize seeds along with biofertilisers were distributed to the participating farmers.
