Sekrenyi-cum-Mini Hornbill 2025 will be celebrated under the aegis of the Angami Public Organization (APO) at Amphitheatre, Kisama near Kohima on February 25 and 26. Sekrenyi is the premier festival of the Angami Nagas.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will be the chief host on February 26 while Er Kropol Vitsu, Advisor Prisons, Printing & Stationary will be the host on February 25.
This was announced during a press conference at APO Hall Kohima by APO Vice President (HQ) Vikehielie Victor Khawakhrie, Angami Youth Organization (AYO) President, Kesosul Christopher Ltu and AYO Vice President (Administration), Dievi Yano.
Khawakhrie, who is convenor of Sekrenyi 2025 said that Sekrenyi, also known as Phousanyi, signifies purification and sanctification of one’s body, mind and soul. During the celebration, people seek God’s blessings to have a long life, good and healthy life, he said.
He extended invitation to all the tribal Hohos based in Kohima to be part of the celebration at the main programme on February 26.
Kohima being the state capital, he said “We are privilege to have all the tribes of Nagaland as well as Naga tribes from Manipur. We wish to invite all of them.” APO also extended invitation to the tourists in and around Kohima to the celebration.
Yano, who is member secretary of Sekrenyi 2025, informed that there will be limited attendance on February 25 whereas thousands of Angamis will converge for the main programme on February 26.
Ltu, a member of Sekrenyi 2025 informed that 2025 Sekrenyi lays more emphasis towards showcasing the rich and diverse culture and traditions of the Angamis. “It will be a big opportunity for everyone to come and witness how the Angami people have practice our culture and traditions,” he said.
Stalls will be set up by four ranges to display traditional attires & artefacts, Angami cuisine & delicacies. It would also feature vegetables & fruits stalls, coffee bar and photo booth.
The day one will be marked by exhibition of Angami ethnic cultural and indigenous games. The celebration will feature war cry, tati pfe, folk song, phrida, traditional fire making, tholi and wooden top spin.
The programme will start from 10:00 AM onwards with APO Vice President (Judicial), Seyielhoutuo Keyho as chairman and blowing of traditional horn by Visosietuo Vüprü. Kruvil Kikhi will pronounce elders’ blessings while Khrietuolie Mezhü & Co will perform folk song. Judges for various events will include Neichütuo Rio, Megorüzo Chase, Kelhouwheto Senotsü and Keneikrul Noswe.
On day two, CM Neiphiu Rio will grace the celebration at 10:00 AM. APO President, Theja-o Vihienuo will share Sekrenyi greetings while Vilazosie Punyü, Head GB Khonoma will pronounce elders’ blessing. Meguo-o Mechülho will share “Sekrenyi as practiced.”
The programme will also witness folk fusion from “Seyiekuolie Bio & Co. and Tshaze Pfhe & Helim from Lidi Kro-u Society. It will be followed by exhibition of Naga wrestling (Under 12 & 15 years), Tug of war and Sekrenyi feast. Musical nite will take place at 4:00 PM. It will feature Visetuo Chüpuo, Bayie Kro-u, Vikuyole Tase, Neilüi Thaprü, Rovi Metha & Coffee, Zayie, Avinuo Metha, LC Sekhose, Kikruleno Keyho and Dieze Sothu.
