Kohima | February 25
The Angami Public Organization (APO) along with the frontal organizations celebrated the premier festival of the Angamis-Sekrenyi cum mini hornbill festival at Naga Heritage Village Kisama on February 25.
Addressing the celebration at Bamboo Hall, APO former president Dr Vilhusa Seleyi called upon the frontal organizations and leaders from the four ranges of Angamis to uphold the spirit of unity and integrity in the Naga society.
He stressed on the need to increase the level of better understanding and unity to defend and strengthen the dignity of the Angamis.
He called for peaceful coexistence, adding that God’s blessing will be always there wherever there is peace and tranquility. He stressed on the need to adopt a healthy lifestyle and limitation, which ultimately, empower one’s esteem personality. Further, he called upon the Angamis to popularize its traditional dresses to keep the identity and the culture alive.
Later, Seleyi released the souvenir of the 50 years of APO.
The programme was chaired by APO President, Razouvotuo Chatsu while APO Vice President, (Judicial) Zadeho Rikha proposed vote of thanks.
Earlier, Prof D Kuolie briefed the account of the publication of APO 50 years souvenir. Folk songs, folk dance and Sekrenyi feast marked the celebration.
Sekrenyi festival is the biggest festival of the Angami tribe. It is a celebration of purification and sanctification accompanied with feasting, dancing and singing.
