Sekrenyi festival celebrated at Jakhama village

Japhüphiki Dobashi (DB) and Gaonbura (GB) celebrated Sekrenyi at Dzükozho, Jakhama village on December 6 with State Youth Resources and Sports Advisor Er Zale Neikha as the guest speaker.  

Around 300 attendees including around hundred Dobashis and Gaonburas from the Southern Angami Villages, Village Council Chairmen and frontal organization representatives attended the meet.  

Sekrenyi festival also known “purification festival”, is a major festival of the Angami Nagas. Notho Koso, DB and Convener, Organizing Committee stated that the festival, particularly for the Japhüphiki (Southern Angami) villages coincides in the month of December or consequently observed alternately for the villages. The month of December so synonymous to “Month of Sekrenyi” for the Southern Angami Village, he added.  

The Nyi for the DBs and GBs, organized for the first time was a discourse to discuss and deliberate on important issues or share concerns and chart a way forward. It was also organized to preserve the traditions of our ancestors, Notho underscored.  

Zutho, a traditional rice beer of the Angami Nagas, rice drinks, maize, Naga Daal were some food items prepared. Dr Nolesel, Chairman, Jakhama Village Council delivered greetings. Chato Paphino (GB Pfiichama) and President Japfiiphiki GB Union spoke on GBs and DBs behalf.
