Dimapur, July 29 (MExN): A ‘Self-employed Hair Stylist Training’ project was inaugurated today by Kovi Meyase, Secretary & Ex-Officio Director of Employment, Skill & Entrepreneurship for the Government of Nagaland. The ceremony took place at the Pinnacle Skills training center in Sematilla, Dimapur.

Addressing the gathering, Meyase highlighted the growing trend of rural-to-urban migration, which often leads young people to end up in the unorganized sector with low wages and uncertain futures. This migration also increases population pressure on urban areas. Meyase emphasized that the self-employed hair stylist project aims to create employment opportunities primarily at the village level, offering a sustainable solution to this issue.

"Self-employment is the way forward for providing sustainable livelihoods," Meyase stated, encouraging the youth to take advantage of the government's support and leverage the opportunities provided.

Dr Yan Murry, Chief Executive of Pinnacle Skills, provided an overview of the project, detailing that the training program is a two-month residential course designed to develop skilled barbers and hair stylists across the state. Upon successful completion, entrepreneurs will have their barber shops set up, with the project covering shop rent for six months. In addition to technical training, trainees will also receive instruction in soft skills and financial literacy.

The inaugural event also saw the attendance of Joint Director of the Department of Employment, Skills and Entrepreneurship, Zubemo Tsanglao. The invocation prayer was offered by Rev. Dr. Wati Longkumer, while Head of Operations at Pinnacle Skills, Ajung Thonger, chaired the program. The vote of thanks was proposed by Tiamoa Tzudir, Project Manager at Pinnacle Skills.
