Hectic preparation for successful introduction of semester system in undergraduate level under Nagaland University is taking place at different levels in Nagaland University as well as in the affiliated colleges in the state of Nagaland. The decision to implement this program has already been taken by the Academic and Executive Councils of Nagaland University. This new program will commence from July, 2012 onward beginning from the First Semester. Accordingly, the annual system (old course) will be phased out gradually.
It is expected that as we start the first semester, things will be easier to handle clearing all doubts learning by doing methods. In fact, it involves more administrative work load. It will also demand more time and more works from the teachers and more devotion from the learners on their studies. Teaching as a profession will be revealed as and when this program is started moving. Many people, especially the students’ community are curiously asking what is all about this new system and who are going to be benefitted.
In brief, this three year degree course will be completed within six semesters having two semesters each in every academic year. Semester I, III and V will start from July to December and semester II, IV and VI will commence from January to June every year during which admission, course work, conduct of examinations and declaration of results will be completed, including semester end break.
The method of examination will be 30:70 marks i.e. internal assessment for 30 marks and End Term Examination for 70 marks. The End Term Examination of IV and VI semesters will be conducted and evaluated by the University. The remaining End Term Examination i.e. I. II, III, and V semester will also be conducted by the University. However, they will be evaluated at the respective colleges only.
This new program is absolutely a student’s friendly program designed in order to facilitate maximum academic opportunities to the students.
