Seminar, activities on rural industries at SJC (A)

Dimapur, February 5 (MExN): A seminar, debate and essay competition on topics related to rural industries was held at St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama on February 2. It was organised by the Department of Economics under the initiative of People’s Education Programme sponsored by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Dimapur, Nagaland.

According to a press release received on Sunday, the topics for essay and debate competition were on ‘Relevance of Rural Industries in Indian Economy’ and ‘Development of Village Industries is a pre-requisite for India’s Economic Growth.’ The seminar was conducted in the presence of Sanipongen, DCO (KVIC) as the guest speaker and YK Shohe, Assistant Director (KVIC) as the keynote speaker.

In his keynote address, Shohe mentioned that the programme is especially designed for the students in order to make them aware about the several Government Schemes which they can utilise to the fullest. He emphasised on how students should be the employment generator, not the employment seeker. 

Sanipongen talked on the history of KVIC and its functions. He also stressed on Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) mentioning about the eligible conditions of beneficiaries, EDP training, etc, it said.

The programme which was hosted by Bakon commenced with a welcome address by Fr Dr George Keduolhou Angami and Sr Dr Ranit invoked God’s blessings. The HoD gave away a token of appreciation followed by a special song by Graceme and the vote of thanks was pronounced by Vishekhoto, President, Department of Economics, the release stated.  The session ended with an interactive session.
