Phek, October 15 (MExN): The Kada Welfare Society, Khezhakeno, Phek, held a three-day seminar on Festivals of the Chakhesang tribe under Cultural Function and Production Grant (CFPG) sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The seminar was conducted from October 12 to 14 at Khezhakeno village, according to a press release from KWS Chairperson Solomon Koza.

As per the release, resource person for the concluding day, Neikodo Chikha stated that culture is the attitude and behavior practice by a particular group of society which is predestined by God. Culture acts as a means of accumulation and transmission of human experience. An individual becomes a member of society, gains knowledge, learns the language, values, norms, customs, traditions of people. Culture is the glue that holds all people together, he said.

Chikha stated that culture represents the beliefs and practices of a group, while society represents the people who share those beliefs and practices. “Neither society nor culture could exist without the other. Culture has four basic characteristics: it is learned, shared from generation to generation, integrated and dynamic,” he added. Stating that all cultures share these basic features, Chikha said that culture influences beliefs about what is true and false, attitudes including likes and dislikes, values regarding what is right and wrong and behaviors and that it is from these cultural influences that identities are formed.

“He deliberated and explained the festivals observed by our forefathers namely Likhenye, Rünye, Selunye and Bulenye, and that our forefathers are honest and straight forward, faithful, hardworking, fun loving people and trust worthy,” the release stated.
The programme was attended by over seventy youths, and was led by Kovie Ladu while invocation was pronounced by Pastor Pfolo, and the introduction and acknowledgement by Solomon Koza and Joshua Koza respectively, the release stated.
